Flowing
Ryo Nishimura
The mechanism of life and death, the path of existence
and life. I started to make a grid as a symbol of these images. This grid is a
geometrical structure of the law of cells and nerves. Expressed only in black
and white with the negative / positive relationship inverted by the print
technique, creating a double line. All this expressing the vague border between
life and death and the property of life and death often inverting. Also
creating an image like that of delicate nerves running through flesh and bone.
My heart is moving. Also, life is moving too like a wave line, mountain outline, and the line of trees. These lines in life represent the history of an event, consecutive present called moments, and flow to the future.
With my drypoint technique I try to express changing flows like that of a river. For me, these drypoint lines show the persistence of motion and the trajectory of an everlasting flow.
Through these lines I ask again about the flowing of life, the persistence of time, and the continuous recreation of "now".
I also decided to use a technique specialized in measuring temporality called "Frottage". Frottage is a technique to trace the shape and unevenness of an object by rubbing paper which is placed on top of an uneven object using drawing material such as pencils or pastels. Like following the constellations scattered in the starry sky, also, like making a map by connecting many points and coordinates, points are joined together, only the simplified icon is extracted.
Every day is made up of many commonplaces. These are pieces of my story of living and the other piece of the story too. In other words, there is an epic story of the life that has been accumulated before I was born.
