Conjuring of Animation Upon Lifeless Matter
Rachel Roberts / Sydney, Australia
''I am an unrepentant maximalist. More is more. I use thought bubbles as a device for illuminating thoughts and feelings. Together, a portrait and accompanying thought bubble capture a moment-in-time, conveying the inner world of my subject. Set against a backdrop of colour and pattern, for me, this is a satisfying image.''
Rachel Roberts is an Australian illustrator, who uses a combination of traditional and digital techniques to create pictures. While she regularly explores different mediums and styles, her practice revolves around pencil on paper, and often incorporates portraiture.
Rachel's work is published in books and magazines, and she illustrated the award-winning children's picture book, Books Don't Need Batteries. Rachel produces work on commission and her larger works on paper have been exhibited in Australia.
